Thanks for your interest in the Venice church of Christ! We are glad you have visited our website, and we hope to be of encouragement and service to you.
Who We Are
We are Christians seeking to follow Jesus of Nazareth as our Lord and Savior on the Westside of Los Angeles, serving Venice, Santa Monica, Culver City, and West Los Angeles neighborhoods. We are a diverse group of people whose shared faith in Jesus is greater than any of our differences. We represent a variety of cultures and are in a wide range of stages in life. We appreciate one another’s abilities, gifts, experiences, and insights. We are not perfect people and we do not expect perfection out of anyone else. We all have our strengths and weaknesses and seek to provide strength to one another by building each other up in faith.
What We Believe and Practice
We believe in God in three Persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and that He is the Creator of the heavens and the earth. We believe in Jesus of Nazareth as Christ the Lord, King of the whole universe. We believe that God has revealed Himself and His purposes for us in the Bible.
We are convinced that since Jesus is Lord and Christ (Acts 2:36), we are not. To that end, we seek to practice New Testament Christianity in twenty-first century Los Angeles, honoring Jesus as Lord by obeying Him according to His purposes for His Kingdom. We do not think we can improve upon what God has told us to do, so we simply seek to apply His message in the Bible to our current time and place. Therefore, the Bible is our guide for faith and practice: we are not affiliated with any denomination or larger religious organization, and we do not maintain statements of belief or creeds above and beyond the message of the Bible. In all things we strive to think, feel, and act as Jesus would have us think, feel, and act, and try to reflect Jesus’ attitudes and actions toward others (Romans 8:29).
We are presently meeting at the Culver City Senior Center in Culver City, California. We meet in Suites C71 and C73, the first two rooms on the left when you enter from main entrance in the parking lot.
We want you to feel comfortable in our assemblies and encourage you to participate in our spiritual activities. We have members and guests who dress up in suits and dresses; we have members and guests who come wearing t-shirts and jeans. Above all things we are glad to see you in our assemblies and want you to be there!
At 9am we meet for our Bible studies. There are two adult Bible studies, one discussing the basics of the faith, and another discussing more mature matters. We also feature Bible classes for children. You are welcome to meet with us and participate in those Bible studies.
At 10am we meet for our assembly. During our assembly we will sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to glorify God and encourage one another (Ephesians 5:19, Colossians 3:16). We sing without instrumental accompaniment, for God has not provided any authority for us to use instruments in our songs in the New Testament. We will also be led in prayer and feature a reading of the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 14:14-17, 1 Timothy 4:13). We will focus our minds on the Lord Jesus and share the Lord’s Supper (Acts 20:7, 1 Corinthians 11:23-26). We will hear the Word preached in a sermon for between 25-35 minutes (Acts 20:7, 2 Timothy 4:1-4). We will provide the opportunity for the members to give back in order to accomplish the work of the local church in benevolence to fellow Christians, evangelism, and edification (1 Corinthians 16:1-4); we do not solicit contributions from our guests. After we have concluded our assembly we enjoy talking with one another and getting to know our guests a bit better; we hope you stay around!
